Join Us for a Panel Discussion: Collective Intelligence, The Wisdom of the Crowd

20 Oct

Calling all Girl Geeks! We have a very exciting event planned for you this October.

A panel discussion on Collective Intelligence, The Wisdom of the Crowd. It’s inspired by the work of James Surowiecki, who wrote the book The Wisdom of the Crowds. A read that postulates there is a reason the audience of Who Wants to be a Millionaire guesses the correct answer more often then the ‘experts’ who act as lifelines.

Jeff Howe, reinforces this point in his book entitled Crowdsourcing describing how a crowd’s diversity leads to innovative thinking and breakthroughs. Many observers of crowdsourcing are noting that we are smarter at decision making when there is a pool of diverse individuals and not a group of like-minded experts.

For all you web people, you’ll be familiar with this concept in action by witnessing the evolution or Linux and other open source software.

To help us tackle this very powerful topic we have invited a few local experts to share their own perspective.

Jason Sew Hoy, General Manager at 99designs

Mary Henderson, Founder & CEO, GeekITGroup

And our own Girl Geek

Brianna Laugher, former President of Wikimedia Australia (psst- subscribe to her blog its awesome http://brianna.laughe…)
